do you find that certain times of the month you feel more dp? i firmly believe that mine is brought on by spikes in my estrogen levels. what do you think?...

also, i think my dp originated from taking a combo of allegra d and ortho-tricyclin. have any of you noticed any changes from birth control pills? (my stupid doctor at the time said that there was no way bcpills could bring anything like depersonalization on).

I only suffer Dp/Dr when I'm highly stressed. I've never experienced Dp/Dr to be worse at my time of the month. Also, I've taken many types of birth control pills, including the Depo injection, but haven't had any change in my Dp/Dr because of them.

The correlation between female hormones and dp have been discussed here many times.
So many times I doubt whether all of the women here who claim to feel worse before, during and just after are all imagining it.

OCPs have also been discussed and once again several women said they felt much worse when taking the pill.
Doctors including female doctors seem to not take notice of women who report all sorts of emotional complaints due to taking the pill or a particular brand of the pill.
Despite this, have you ever heard women (who have not got dp)confess to feeling depressed, anxious, irritable, weird,"just not themselves"whilst taking the pill?
I know that I have.
Apart from the obvious complaints like weight gain, fluid rentention, insomnia etc.more than not when the topic of the pill is brought up,it's common to hear stories of depression etc.

For about a year prior to my developing chronic dp I would notice that every month like clock work for several days post menstrually,I'd experience dp/dr.
I thought it very odd and eventually accepted that for some unkown reason that it would appear, then wear off until the next month.
My hunch is that it had something to do with an inner ear vestibular problem I have.
Chronic dp set in whilst I was trailing a new contraceptive pill.It is possible that this was coincidental as a couple of other stressors were happening at the same time.

If anyone finds an explanation as to the hormone connection,I'd be more than keen to know about it.

All the best Shelly

Ok...it wasn't the pills per se, but bc pills can MAGNIFY already flawed thinking; the hormone influx adds more emotion and charge to previously smaller "molehills", and the exaggerated thinking could increase depression and bring on dp.

Examine the things that you used to get somewhat plussed by, but now get REALLY negative about on birth control pills. there are the hints to where your problems lie.

I can totally agree with this. I have been keeping a diary & notice the 1st day of the month & the 14th day of the month I use to get worse dp. Now I just get anxiety & get weird feelings or even teary.

I wonder what we can do about this?

*delurks for a bit*

i have a friend, who doesn't have working ovaries. she is quite an experimenter and has played around with seemingly every hormones in the book.

i remember her describing to me some extremely psychadaelic effects of taking reasonably large doses of some forms of progesterone. estrogen i believe did not have the same affect.

i believe naturally progesterone substantially peaks on the 14th day, and is virtually zero around the end/beginning of the cycle. so maybe there is a connection...

Martin that little problem is easily solved............celibacy.
There is something to be said for using avoidance as a prevention against anxiety(works well for herpes too)

thanks for replying. i'm going to a new doctor who leans more toward holistic medicine than most doctors. she had me take a saliva test to see what hormones are high at certain times of the month. i have an appointment with her on friday and she'll prescribe bioidentical hormones to try to level them out.

she did say that women that have really high levels of estrogen have more anxiety, depression, insomnia, and really bad periods. i'm guessing that if hormones can make a person display those symptoms, causing dp/dr wouldn't be a stretch...

i'll let you know what she says.

yeah Martin,I guess...............you have to do you're bit for mankind

agentcooper,if high estrogen can cause all of these symptoms you can well
imagine what low estrogen can do,which is essentially menopause.
It's so terribly common for menopausal women to experience panic attacks, depression etc. These hormones(chemicals) are not to be underestimated.
It's all part of the endocrine system which somehow acts with the nervous system and is controlled by our brain centres as the hypthalamus which I think controls the pituitary gland which releases female hormones.

When you take the pill from my understanding it tricks your body into thinking it's pregnant. It supresses ovulation with synthetic hormones.

I can't take the pill because it causes severe PMS like symptoms which include anxiety.
Female hormones are rather complex and our reactions and sensitivities are highly individual.
Many women are trouble free and others have no end of problems which is not a reflection of their fertility.

Good luck,all the best Shelly
