Focus Med Alternatives

Okay so I'm new here.

Been reading for a awhile but first time posting.

I've been suffering from what I think is dp for the last 3 or 4 months

The reason I say think is because I'm really just guessing.

This seems to match all my symptoms and am otherwise healthy except for having bipolar

My thought processes here lately are basically non-existant. When they do come they are random and not relating to anything I'm doing.

It's difficult, nay near-impossible, to hold a conversation when my brain is doing cartwheels like this. Plus, I have no concentration, no attention-span whatsoever. Feeling agitated, like I can't sit still, but yet I can't focus enough to do anything constructive. Smoking and caffeine generally make it worse so I'm trying to cut back.

I find myself walking a lot. Like all the time. 24/7. Not to anywhere in particular. Just trying to pass the time till bed.

That's it. That's what my life's become.

Now my doc prescribed me adderall 20mg and it was a breath of fresh air. I felt awake, alert, and though my memory still sucked I was in a genuine good mood and could actually get shit done.

The only bad news is that it doesn't last long. 3-4 hours at most. And while I know about the XR version I'm still worried it won't last long enough.

How is one supposed to live for only 8 hours at a time? What am I supposed to do the rest of the time? And I worry that after a few weeks of taking it might not won't work at all. I'm wanting to start back to school soon and I really need my brain.

I guess the real question I'm asking is there anything else out there that'll help with the brain fog? (Can't afford provigil, tried phosphatyldeserine, ginkgo, and dmae. none worked.)

I figure there must be some sort of natural alternatives to these meds out there.

Hey I just want to say that your story sounds EXACTLY like mine. It was like reading about myself. Have you found anything that helps fight the brain fog??? The biggest part of my DPDR these days is complete brain fog. It is awful. Anyways, if you are still around, Id like to know if you have found out any more info. Cheers
You say you can't afford Provigil. This is Modafinil which is readily available online for reasonable prices. Adrafinil is unscheduled IIRC; however it's harsher on your liver. It metabolizes in to Modafinil. You could also try a racetam; I'd suggest Coluracetam.

Unfortunately, many eugeroics and stimulants are anxiogenic; compromising any cognitive improvements you attain. The same goes for natural alternatives.

Jgamepro.. there're lots of herbal/natural relaxants out there. Kava kava comes to mind. I saw it in pill form at my local health food store last week, thought I might give it a try again. It worked well for me a few years back..

Why don't you visit a health food store and ask what's available. Most shops like this have staff who are generally quite knowledgable about what they're selling? Even something like a vitamin B complex can help. Sometimes it's best just try different natural potions and see which one works best for you.

odisa.. I think the last thing anyone with dp/dr needs is a stimulant! Besides, just about all the meds you mentioned are pharmaceutical meds. This thread's about 'natural alternatives'. I think Jgamepro would prefer to get better, not worse...

I simply answered his question:

I agree that stimulants are generally a bad idea with DP/DR. I only suggested those that I did, because they are safer than Amphetamines (speed/Adderall).

Re: Natural alternatives. Whatever you do; don't waste your money on homeopathy. Look up the definition if you want to know why. I normally don't suggest it, but nicotine is natural and nootropic. Maybe try an e-cig.

Don't waste your money on homeopathy?? Typical naive response from a brainwashed fool! If you don't know anything about it, keep your dumb opinions to yourself. I suppose you're going to tell me homeopathy is nothing but a placebo… Funny how homeopathic medicine works on children and animals. Placebo effect doesn't work on animals or children btw.. Just b/c it doesn't make sense to you and you can't understand it with your scientific brain, doesn't mean it doesn't work..

And yes… what a great idea! Recommend taking the same drug (nicotine) that you're trying to stop. That's like feeding heroin to a junky. Just in case you haven't figured it out, nicotine is what smokers are addicted to. It's not b/c of the so-called habit. It's an addiction, plain and simple… How do you stop smoking. Stop taking the drug you're addicted too! It ain't rocket science… Nicotine replacement therapies have an incredibly low success rate. Ever wondered why?

Sure nicotine's natural... It's also a poison. Why recommend to someone to take a poison??

If you seriously want to stop smoking, read Allen Carrs book. 'The easy way to stop smoking'.

I simply answered his question:
No you didn't.
It's worth to try any avenue of medicine if you want to and can afford it. But don't get your hopes up too high. Nothing appears to help dp/dr much anyway.
