Feeling really down about things - keep thinking I'm never going to feel any better about things, less anxious...

What do you guys who also have anxiety and, for want of a better word 'depression' do when things are a bit tough?

It seems to go in cycles...I just hope I'm not bi polar or something - and I don't particularly want to find out...

Finding out a diagnosis is the first step to getting yourself together, getting healthier and improving your quality of life.

Do you have a therapist, psychiatrist, are you on meds?

Otherwise my advice for coping with depression is to stay active and keep communicating with people. Watching a lot of movies was something else that worked for me, helped me to stay connected and interested in the world.

If I'm just very depressed, I take things very slow and easy, but still get everything done as best as I can.

If it's depression+anxiety, I escape into relaxing environments (I own all kinds of things that create nature sounds, soothing lighting effects, etc.), just to put myself in a deeply relaxed state, and stop myself from ruminating about everything.

If it's just pure anxiety by itself, however, I deal with it by simply popping sh*tloads of benzos (sorry Joe  ).

Thanks bright - yes I've been seeing a councellor/pschyotherapist for ages now. I was on meds but stopped a year ago.

I did feel fine in the early part of the week - just feeling a bit fed up, and down. Keep having really depressing thoughts.

I also feel sick which is horrible for me as I'm never sure if its due to a bug or anxiety (Which then sets my mind off on all the 'anxiety' thoughts as I'm used to having them when feeling sick - if you get me :? )

sorry to hear you're on a bad swing, mr. mole. We all go through them though. I used to think i was bi-polar as well, but it turns out that's just how these things work. Things are bad now, but they'll get better...

I know that wasn't particularly inspiring but i can't write much right now but wanted to write something.

Thanks sebastion - I aprreciate the reply!

I know these things go in cycles, but I just don't understand how they go 'bad' with no provocation in some cases.

I have a Marsona Sound Conditioner, which has several options for nature sounds (I prefer the babbling brook).

Also, I have an Envirascape, which has a miniature waterfall that sprinkles down before a little screen that slowly changes colors (I have a little bedtime ritual where I sit in the dark by the light of the latter, sipping juice as I fall into ever deeper states of relaxation, for about an hour before tucking in).

:D They sound great! I did consider doing something similar if the PC I'm building is quiet enough when on - using either a realistic screen saver or a custom design app of some sort.

Mr. Mole, I am sorry that you're feeling worse at the moment. However, do you remember my posts just a few days ago? You definitely have hope, and you can recover more quickly if you talk to us; we want very much to help you, as your pain is our pain.

Yours truly,
XEPER

P.S. Sometimes we are just not consciously aware of the cause, but there probably is one deep inside your heart. Or maybe something random just caused a chain reaction of negative thoughts. Anyway, I would like to help in any way that I can.

P.P.S Unfortunately, I am not in England, though I wish I were.

Thanks XEPER - may I ask, why does you sig say what it does? What have done that's so bad? Your message to me seemed heartfelt and genuine. I can't imagine why you'd hate yourself. You seem a nice bloke to me.

There were times that I had ups and downs for periods. Even twice or more in a day. That condition was declining for the last 1 year. The beafore-decline period lasted for 1-1.5 year. Sometimes I was depressed, and I was deeply deeply sad. When I was sad, I was keep thinking that "there is future, there is no choise".

I dont know what happened but it's gone now. Would you believe that I am even start to wonder why it doesn't happening anymore? I don't know if that's tragic or funy.

I dont think i am bi-polar, although I was considering the possibility back then. I never thought going to a doctor during that period. I am sure it was something more light that what you are beeing through.

In my opinion, and I am no doc or something, it's returning because it's not over yet.

MrMole, like you, I continually find myself in the depths of despair on Monday and then by Thursday I am trying to remember why I ever thought things were so bad. I think it is our sensitive nature and our tendancy to "awfulize" to the point of self destruction.

It's amazing how bad it gets and then how it turns around. Sometimes I help by really trying to improve my attitude and then sometimes the circumstances around me change and I feel better about the world again.

It's quite an aggravating way to live, isn't it?

Most sincerely,
terri
