I'm not sure if this culprit or part of the problem. I respond negatively to all drugs that target serotonin even supplements. SSRIs like Paxil actually GAVE me dp/dr, also made me extremely emotionally numb but there's irritability, massive brain fog (2 important components of dp), and not only zero sex drive but also numb genitals, very unmotivated, fatigued and lazy.
Pristiq on the other hand which targets both serotonin and norepinephrine is also bad but maybe a bit less bad than Paxil. I would say 10% less.

I have misused ssris in the past taking 2 together in very high doses. It's a stupid mistake and i regret it 100%.
I think I have damaged my brain. I read that emotional numbness and aggression are clear sign of excessive serotonin. Don't know if this is true. If it is, how do I lower it?

P.s. Lowering serotonin is also bad. there should be a balance. I'm taking pristiq still, I want to decrease the serotonin so it's more balanced.

You should try tianeptine. It is an atypical anti-depressant. It works by REDUCING the amount of serotonin between brain cells. It was once classified as a SSRE, which is a selective serotonin reuptake enhancer but in recent years it has been reclassified. It works on glutamate which is the neurotransmitter implicated in DP. The bad thing about tianeptine is that it's not technically available in the US, but you can buy it online without a rx. Also, it has a very short half life so the effects wax and wane so you know that you are not truly better, but that your symptoms are masked for a short time.

I believe I get the same effect from Sulpiride (low dose)....

But I also believe that it has a regulating effect on my dopamine levels too....

This drug does not eliminate my DP but makes it very manageable...

There is a very interesting old post somewhere on here as regards dopamine levels and DP...Im gonna try dig it up...

My DP started after a few weeks on an SSRI. For a long time (years) I thought I had brain damage, or that my serotonin was too high, blah blah blah - but now I think the SSRI was just the trigger. I react horribly to all medications. All that's helped me so far has been stress reduction and diet changes (no caffeine, no alcohol, fairly low carb diet). I feel strongly that my body and spirit need to DETOX - so I'm also starting to do liver flushes, and I had my first energy work appointment last week (energy blocks are removed and "clean" energy is put back in), which was EXTREMELY helpful - actually the most helpful thing I've tried so far.
With increasing availability of drugs esp weed, dp rate is rising. Does that mean all those ppl afflicted by the disorder has it triggered by these drugs? I don't think so. The only thing that happened I'm sure, and which drugs are supposed to do, is some awful change in brain chemistry. For me, dp was not easy to get to me. It was like its competing with me for a long time to make me believe the shit it was telling me until sadly it won. It seems some of us are just sensitive to drugs.
