Yep

In a league of its own. It works. But you pay a price. All depends on each individual though. Are you thinking of taking it? If so, read some other posts I, Sleeping Beauty or Martinelv have posted on it to get some idea.

I've been on effexor for the last year or so.
Helped a little with the anxiety but really didn't do
much for the dp.

i took effexor for about a week in the days when i actually thought drugs could help me (note the subjective pronoun...they do help some). It made me feel really shaky and cold and stoned when i took it, and ridiculously tired the next day.

My take on it, for me anyway, is that it REALLY helps with calming the anxiety and makes you feel pretty damn good when you pop one of those pills. But it did nothing for the DP and i think if i took it long term i would have become a vegetable.

I was on effexor for two years. Then I began having migraines (I've had headaches my whole life, but then I was getting severe headaches several times a week). My dr. thought the migraines were being caused by depression and anxiety so I upped my dosage. I began getting migraines every day! I realized it was the effexor that was causing them, and so I tapered off. Afterward I had way fewer headaches. I am def staying away from it from now on.

Britters, the funny thing is you say "I realized it was the effexor that was causing them." Not the doctor. Doctors are idiots. We basically have to moniter our own meds and treatment and it's been pissing me off for a while now.

I posted a lengthy rant about Efexor withdrawal on the 'That's Life' forum. While I was on Efexor (150mg) I felt fine....better than fine. No real anxiety and zilcho panic attacks. And no other side effects that I can think of...not even reduced libido (not that I get the chance to use it !!) like I do on Cipramil. However, and it's a big however, the majority of people here will agree that getting off the stuff is a nightmare. A total nightmare. I never felt so ill in my life...so I changed back to Cipramil, which had no withdrawal whatsoever, in my experience, although no quite as effective.

Anyway, if you're prepared to stay on it the rest of you life or put up with the horrific withdrawal (even when it's tapered withdrawal), then go for it. It is definately effective at relieving symptoms of neurotic illness.
