Hi all,

I would like to ask how you deal with your DPDR on a daily basis in your jobs?
Especially if you tell your colleagues at work about your symptoms, what challenges you face in the office, travelling to work and how you cope with your anxiety in social situations at lunch etc.
Any input or ideas would be highly appreciated.

I wouldnt tell ppl at your job that you have this as DP is not noticeable anyway to other ppl. If you have a close-knitted community which you really trust then, by all means, go ahead.

Most jobs, however, arent this way.

Work actually reduces my DP. If you learn to just concentrate on the task at hand, you will notice a reduction and a calmer state.

I have some really hard days where I just want to run out of the office and just break down. It's hard to keep everything in mind and get it all down, my concentration and memory can be pretty bad. I make it through every day somehow

Disability....Had to quit work and fight for it for 3 years....Wasnt an easy process to say the least....

I think part time work if your able for it is the solution...

I found it impossible to get through a days work when my DP was in its chronic form...I would spend half the day in the locker room in absolute mental agony and fear....

If your job is very very stressful and high paced I suggest looking at alternatives...

Unfortunately I have always worked amongst groups of men so trying to explain that you were feeling ill mentally wasnt an option as you would basically be ridiculed and told to man up...Very very sad scenario amongst the male population...And then they wonder why so many young fellas are ending their own lives...

In my experience the Stigma attached to mental ill health is the number one obstacle in the work place....You are either afraid to tell colleagues and supervisors that you arent well for fear of either losing your job or the fear that you simply wont be taken seriously...
