Hey there!

My name is Michael and I've been living with DPDR for about 8 years now. I have recently enrolled in a game design course that has us making prototype games. This trimester we have been tasked with creating a game that has meaning, something that can send a message to players. For my prototype I have decided to create a game about the effects of DPDR, and try to spread some awareness about the disorder in the hopes of helping people to understand what someone suffering with DPDR might be feeling, maybe even to help someone who might be going through it get the help they need.

The reason I'm posting in this forum is to do some research into the experiences that people have had, or are having with the disorder, as well as things that people may have done to improve their condition. While I have my own experiences with the condition I would like to get perspectives from a range of different people so that I can properly portray the effects of DPDR and stave away from misrepresentation or stereotyping.

When the game is complete I'll be uploading it to itch.io along with some information about ways that people suffering can improve their condition or get the help they need, while I am not in any way a medical practitioner, if I can help others understand DPDR and spread awareness in the hopes of more study being done, or help someone to understand what a family member/ friend might be going through, that would be great.

if anyone would like to contribute but doesn't feel comfortable posting on this forum you can email me at [email protected] which is my student email

My derealization and depersonalization were 24/7 for months. Reality felt like it was getting farther and farther put of reach. Now I really have to challenge the thoughts that question reality. There was a fair bit of time in which my vison felt distorted as if everything was hyperdetailed and loud while I also felt disconnected from it all. Like I was just watching and not participating. I've been doing a lot of reality checking and self soothing. The thoughts are hard because they seem so real but somewhere inside I know they're lies.

Hi Michael, it's great to hear you're working on a game to raise awareness about DPDR. As someone who has also experienced this disorder, it's essential to spread awareness and help others understand what it's like to live with it. However, I still sometimes play the games from this list (https://joywallet.com/article/bingo-cash-review/) as they bring me some money. Best of luck with your project, and I'm looking forward to playing the game when it's complete.
