I have suffered from DPDR in the past after having a panic attack caused by marijuana. I eventually recovered from that but had a relapse after taking prednisone prescribed from my doctor which also. I recovered from that also but still have some symptoms when dealing with stress/anxiety.

I wanted to purchase a VR headset but am now hesitant since I'm worried they could cause a relapse. In the past I have noticed that some 3D moves cause some DPDR for a short time. Does anyone here have any experience using a VR headset?

There is indeed some evidence that virtual reality can cause short lasting depersonalization symptoms in some people. Currently it is unkown why, but if 3D-movies trigger it for you then it would not be far fetched if virtual reality would do so, too.

I used a VR headset once in a while in the past and was fine. If you stick to the safe/not traumatizing/more zen-like VR programs you should be ok, but avoid if you want to be totally sure. I actually used it as more of a relaxation tool. I did eventually stop using the headset though - not because it aggravated my DR but because I started to feel more and more like a geeky twat with a brick strapped to my forehead.
