My work recently relocated... 45 mins away from my house. I do not do well with traveling at all. My DP gets so bad and I have to fight off panic attacks.

On the way there I do ok... I think cuz I'm so tired. The way back is Hell. I had to take a xanax 4 out of 5 days last work week. The fifth day I read a book which helped a bit. If I keep taking the xanax regularly it isn't gonna help anymore.

Right now I'm getting a ride to and from. I have avoided getting my license for years, but now I have to in order to keep my job. Won't be able to read books to distract myself. I'm worried I won't be able to make it by myself... I think the distraction of driving might help for awhile, but soon I'll get used to it and the panic will come.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Peacedove,
Driving is something I look forward to. When this first hit me I took a drive everynight in order to help me calm down. Now with the way gas prices are, I obivously can't do that anymore. :x

I play relaxing music, roll down the window, and let the wind hit me. I like the fact that I am moving and I am away from everyone and everything. Maybe try to look at it from this perspective. It could end up being something you enjoy.

This helps me... I play my favorite music full blast and sing along with it

Anything to keep youre mind off of the weird feeling. Don't get me wrong, sometimes when I'm singing I still feel weird but it's fightable.

Doing this for a month when driving... and it get easier.

If you start thinking about driving too much, then you'll find yourself asking why youre driving, why the rode is the way it is, why the cars look like they way they do... You'll start going nuts...

Anyway this is what I do to get through. If you keep reminding yourself why you feel weird it will just get worse.

You have to distract youre mind at all costs. Months of doing this... you will see good improvement. Hope this helps.

Sometimes the worst fear is fear itself. My drive to and from work gets me thinking too much and questioning too much, and just analyzing and panicing, too. Although, it seems like yours is more extreme. I try to just get lost in the songs on the radio. If you have a tape or CD is your car, maybe make yourself a mix tape/CD with some of your favorite songs. Also, they have books on tape you can buy and listen to them in the car. Hope it gets better for you.

it sounds like you have a lot of self-doubt in yourself.

You cannot just think your DP will go away one day. Every cause has an effect, and every effect has a cause.

Dp is the effect of a certain cause, and relieving it is as well. YOU MUST CREATE THE EFFECTS BY CONSCIOUS CAUSES!

Your self doubt is probably a huge cause of your DP. Learn to go with your first instinct.... just as they say about tests, your first instinct is usually correct.

Your subconscious mind knows whats right, and will lead you first to the right answer. When self doubt gets thrown in the mix, it tells you your wrong, even tho your subconsciousness knows your not.
