i think it could be a combination of factors but im working myself up into a real state,the differences ive noticed is that i feel really really detached like im totally not here,and im finding it hard to recognize my surroundings...

ive not drank for around 2 weeks and ive changed my diet by cutting out all so called junk food and sugar,also i didnt get much sleep last night maybe about 5 hours...any help or advice would be most welcome,im just struggling at the moment to find emotional stability

jc, when I feel frightened with the dp I try to concentrate on something else, I do other things to distract my mind. I know this is hard to do. It helps me, it might help you. Lack of sleep can make the symptoms of depersonalization worse. The brain is tired and it can give you many symptoms. Maybe you need more rest, the body and mind when under alot of stress can do funny things. Spaced out feelings are part of lack of sleep along with many other symptoms. If you like to read it might be helpful to read a book, listen to music, something that helps part of your mind think of something else. I hope I helped a little bit, I know it is scarey this illness. You will be okay.

im just so damn tired lately which as you say will cause spaced out feelings but due to me being in a constant anxious state 24/7 it just becomes more apparent...ive got therepy tommorow so hopefully that will level me out...this is like a frigging death sentance sometimes,i tell myself how lucky i am to be alive and kicking but i always fall at the last hurdle

the weird thing about this illness is for example

i went for my daily walk earlier today and bumped into a friend and i was asking him if there were any jobs at his place,and he said yes,and i felt 'normal' very strong and really upbeat,now its turned around full circle

i really don't think the eating habits are going to help all that much with your symptoms. I think drinking certainly exacerbates feelings of unreality, anxiety, etc, but i think that is also okay as long as it's in moderation.

The real trick, i agree with gem, is to focus outwards, and to involve yourself with something exoteric...even if it seems forced. Anyway, that's what i try to do.

I see your sober state as the wake up call you need to make progress with the illness. Alcohol just covers things up and makes things worse under the surface, and with sobriety, things may seem worse initially, but its step one towards dp recovery.
