Da'Burgh, maybe you could elaborate a little on the question. I'm not sure 100% what it is you're asking.

Sorry to seem obtuse, but if you could elaborate a little, t'would be appreciated.

Well sometimes I wonder if DP/DR, especially DR, just has a mind of it's own and needs to just work it's way out or that you should do certain things like eat properly or avoid certain things to battle it. I don't really have much DP anymore, it's just the visual disturbances and crap like that that just stick around, lingering...

Yes I think I see what you're saying. Most people here give the advice to distract yourself from the DP... including me I think.

When I was in a day program at the mental hospital they said to face my panic head on. I told them I read books in the car to distract me from having a panic attack and they said that was bad.

I don't know what to do either. I don't think I can control my mind to make it stop trying to control the DP... if that makes any sense.

DP is a symptom. A side-effect of something else.

Janine's message has always been, it seems to me, to ignore it as best you can and focus outward.

But she's also been clear that there's another part to it: find out what you are scared of in reality.

It's so convenient to have crazy thoughts that you are scared of, but there is something that is really inside you that you are scared of and that thing, whatever it is, is the cause of your DP. Ignoring that thing will not work.

Ignoring and focusing outward just lets you barely function.

You continue to feel horrible because you are not busy attending to what is really bothering you. It isn't the DP. The DP is just a symptom.

what kind of visual side effects do you get because i get some too. Like light sensativity, not being ablle to process everything right away in my mind it feels like, more photosensativity, more floaters.

I know what you mean asking if DR has a mind of its own. For example even if you were not to think about it, it would still be strongly with you. Or if DR is just all based off of your train of thought and how well you control it. I really think its both, I think the mind of its own comes with still being scared about the DR, atleast for me it is. When my mind knows im scared of something it will make it re-occur and scare the shit out of me, like it knows sometimes I let my DR win and get anxious over it.
