You may be suffering deeply from DP/DR, but never say to yourself "I cannot be happy while I am suffering from DP/DR" When you say this you are giving the DP/DR a lot of power, and make life a lot more difficult than it needs to be. Don't wait for DP/DR to disappear before you can get on with your life. Live life now as you are. Yes, easier said than done, but do it anyway.

Hope everyone had a Happy New Year.

JAG, I agree with what you said one hundred percent. It is so true if we wait for this illness to go away to feel happy we may feel disappointed when it does not go away for a bit. I cherish the happy moments in life. I have seen me laugh right out loud at something and thought to myself, how can I laugh like that when I have dp/dr, it was not always like that, but in the last few months I have been able to laugh again. I do not feel the laugh like I used to but it is coming back slowly. Laughter truly is great medicine. It makes you feel alive.

You're both right, it's just so damn hard having to pretend all the time. It would be much easier if there was a guarantee for cure. I just keep imagining what it will (hopefully) be like to be dp free one day.

maria, I also agree with you it is very hard to pretend all the time. The problem is you cannot see this illness. It has no face. It could be anyone living with this condition. I have spent most of my life showing the world a smile. I have tried hard to hide the pain behind the smile. Dp/dr is in a world of it's own. I thought to myself one day, what would I think if someone tried to explain this to me instead of me explaining it to them, I would probably think to myself how do you cope in something so horrible. It proves how truly strong we all are who suffer with this, it takes a great strenghth and determination to live in this. I believe we all have courage to face the future and I do believe that someday all of us will be dp/dr freee.
