i would like to know if derealization is caused from panic and anxiety... if not did i get over the panic disorder then have another disorder? i feel they go hand and hand but might be wrong.. when i wake up in the morning my first thoughts are on the way i feel.. am i focusing to much on everything...i also have trouble with my breathing when i get these feelings of derealization.. i went 3 days without any derealization then had a bad day.. i just dont understand this disorder.. they say the feelings wont hurt you so you would think i would just dismiss them..but its hard to do..Doug

It could be either, I guess.

Most doctors will say that panic can only cause temporary, short-term derealization - but there have been people who've had DR develop from panic problems in the past, so that could be the case.

This is probably part of the problem as well.

i also have trouble with my breathing when i get these feelings of derealization
There's a bit of a chicken/egg problem here.

Your shallow breathing might be a result of the anxiety that you get with the DR. Alternatively, in some people, chronic hyperventilation is actually the primary cause of derealization, so you might wanna look into that as well.

i started with all this through having panic attacks and anxiety....and have been dped/dred 24/7 for 14 months......i don't have the panic attacks now and i dont feel anxious but the dp/dr has stuck.....i believe i must still be anxious or the dp should of lifted.....so i think they go hand in hand but can suffer different levels of both

I have DR pretty much all the time. There have been periods of calm during the DP circus when the DR was still present. What I have noticed from my own experience is that it gets worse during an anxiety attack, but it is always there to some extent with or without the anxiety.

There is another member on the board who doesn't have any anxiety, but suffers from DR constantly.
