Does anyone have trouble with "leaving" movies / tv once they are over? (Esp scary ones) Does the movie strongly linger in your mind/senses?

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else gets this, and if so, what you might do to deal with it best...

Whenever I watch a movie, I react so very deeply to what I am watching. It is hard to explain in words, especially in text, but it is as if my senses are still very attached to the sounds and visuals of the movie (or tv show) that I just watched. I have a difficult time getting the characters out of my head. So much so, that I have to really concentrate on what I am doing or who I am talking to, after the show has ended. This can last anywhere from 5 or 10 minutes, to a couple of hours.

This sometimes happens when I am with people or in a deep conversation. After I leave it (especially if I leave abruptly) my brain feels like I am still in the conversation, and i have to strongly concentrate on where I am at and what I am doing in order to try and 'snap' myself out of it.

I cannot watch scary movies!!! EVER. I feel very "surrounded" by the thoughts and energies of the movies I watch, so NO scary or thriller type of movies whatsoever.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be really appreciated on this one!! Thanks everyone!!

this happened to me. Not anymore but once when my DP was at peak. even after the movie i felt like i was living in it
That's actually how movies are supposed to make you feel!!! I'm too emotionally numb to even feel that way. If I were you I'd just watch a comedy or something
Thank you so much for replying!!! It is so important, for endless reasons, that we continue to reach out and connect with each other. I really appreciate every bit of honesty and kindness. Thanks, friends!
I have this, and escpecially with horror movies or dramas that make me somehow anxious.

I used to like horror, but now cant even watch horror comedies or anything like that. Same if somewhere is a scary picture, I cant get the image away from my head once ive seen something disturbing.

Last week watched titanic and even it made me like "live in the film" and it was like those things happened to me.. I always have catastrophal thoughts but after the movie it was way worse, like my apartment had turned into a boats cabin and soon it was going to sink :D

Isn't that the whole point of scary movies?

Everyone shits themselves when they are truly scared by a movie. I used to avoid scary or psychologically twisted movies but I just said Fuck it and watched them anyways, quite enjoyed them and didn't freak out. Even watched memento the other day, sick movie.

I bet pre dp you got scared as hell by movies, I did, I even slept with the light on sometimes when I saw something that really scared me. We just didn't have DP to attach everything to.
Yes! It's nice to know that somebody else gets the same reaction. Whenever I watch a scary movie I usually have some if not all of the symptoms of DR afterwards. I LOOOVE scary movies, but hate the after effects of them. My mind races more than usual, and I'm hypervigialent. Of course.. this scares me and triggers me into derealization.

I sometimes feel this after a deep conversation (it has to be one where I've completely zoned out to the rest of the world and be completely absorbed). When I leave the conversation I feel as though I am imagining my surroundings as if my mind has drifted away from the conversation and I am now day dreaming whatever I am doing afterwards. Of course I KNOW that this is not the case, and I have physically left the person I was having a conversation with. It scares me because I feel that if I were to snap out of this fake day dream, that I will be disrespecting the person who I was talking to previously.
