Do You Suffer From Poor Memory Due To DP/DR?

I voted yes.

I can't seem to remember much of my past and I can't remember what I done on what day.

If you do have poor memory problems relating to this, please post some descriptions of how it effects you.

I've also noticed that I've had short-term memory problems since my depersonalization symptoms started. Specifically, I have difficulty recalling what I've done recently, and remembering words. That being said, I've found that keeping a daily schedule really helps me keep track of what I've done when. Not much success with the words thing yet.

my memory becomes extremely fuzzy. and it also develops really bad deja vu. almost everything that happens feels like it has happened before somehow. pretty odd and frustrating.

of course, memory isn't really accurate for anybody. we think of it as a camera recording info, when memory is really alot more like a surreal painting.

but for people with dpd, emotional memory is severely impaired. and the overall obsessiveness of thoughts and inability to concentrate affects memory too.

My memory is terrible, i can't remember recent events, and my concentration is lapsed too, making every part of my life feel like snapshots, forget about trying to do simple maths or being able to remember which band wrote a certain song, its just too bloody hard

Of course I do, it slightly variies from day to day but most of the time I got at least the feeling everything I remember would be long ago. In general I'm mostly able to remember facts/conclusions; to recall the orders of events is much worser. The film "Memento" exposes the memory problems quite good. (fortunately my issues arent that worse as the ones of the guy in the film)

When I read anything work-related (not for entertainment), I retain about 10% of what I read and have to re-read the same page maybe 5-6 times. Before my DP/DR I used to be a bookworm for anything/everything.

Also, all my memories - yesterday, last week, when I was 10 years old, even from when I clicked REPLY to this post seem like they occured years ago.

My dp/dr has fucked with my memory for as long as i have had it. I can recall things, but i do not feel them. I draw a blank when it comes to memories good and bad. the most terrible feeling in the world is not remembering the day my son was born... it feels like a movie... i cannot be here.

My memory is strange, I will remember a certain way somebody looked at me during a converstaion i had with them years ago, or what i was think at that time, but remembering anything from the conversation is nearly impossible. I am good at memorizing information for classes in college though. Remembering what was said in conversations is hard when your not really "in" the conversation anyway.

I think for me it is not clear if DP/DR has influenced my memory. The first years my memory seemed fine. The last six years it has become fuzzy. I can not put things in the correct timeline, short-term memory is very slow, often I can not express mysef clearly because of loss of words, and thinking in general and memory is slow. It does not have the same clarity as it had in the past. But not sure what would have caused it. DP/DR? Or maybe something else?

I have an ongoing problem where events may have happened only minutes ago seem like they happened far back in the past. Months or even years ago. I often question whether they occurred at all. Even if at the time I wasn't experiencing a period of derealisation a recent memory will seem incredibly hazy and dream-like. This has been going on for a while although it seems to be increasing in frequency and intensity recently

I'll always remember basic outlines of things. But dates, specifics, motives, causes, effects, all these things are fuzzy. I think its because I understand why memories are important to people, but I compartmentalize so many of them that they lose their effect.

I didn't respond, 'cause I'm not sure exactly *how* to respond.

When my dp/dr is not real "active," my memory and concentration are generally fine. However, if I focus too intently on memories, it can actually tend to "activate" my dp/dr -- which I don't want to do.

Also, when my dp/dr is active, memory is often foggy and distant. OTOH, I can experience various "paramnesias" all too clearly.

My memory is absolutely terrible. I forget where my classes are at school all the time and I end up in strange places that I can't remember how I got there. On a night though, I have strange nostalgic flashbacks to when I was little, or shop I used to go in that have gone now. I think it's my minds way of telling me it wants to go back to before, when I didn't have this stupid feeling.
