I've never met anyone with Depersonalization or Derealization IN REAL LIFE. Do you notice anything strange about them or do they seem just as normal as anyone else? I've always been curious, because I'm wondering if people think I'm as different as I feel.

Everyone I've talked to here seems very normal to me. The only difference I've noticed is that most of you are very philosophical like myself.

Not in the slightest.

DP people have NO trace of "dp-ness" to them at all...and remember, I was ill for a long time - so I even know exactly how it feels, what to "look for" etc...nuthin'

I've met many dp'er's - not a hint that there is anything remotely wrong.

If anything, they (we) seem BETTER than normal. And in my mind, that's explained by the fact that most of us are much smarter than average, much more "socially aware" than average, much more empathic, charismatic, and overall charming.

The narcissitic traits that make us delightful are connected to the underlying narcissistic disturbances (in my opinion). But other than "well above the norm" you won't find anything noticeably odd about us.

Peace,
J

Thanks Janine! Just what I wanted to hear- that I was narcissistic! haha ;)

Whenever I have revealed my strange feelings people tell me they had never noticed anything strange about me.

If someone is having an intense anxiety moment, you'll notice THAT. But the dp experience itself is not "affect" (like depression, fear, shame, anger, etc...) It's an altered state of consciousness - and only Self is attuned to Self's conscious awareness...

It's like asking if you watch a color blind person look at green, and a normal person look at green, will you notice a difference? The "Green-ness" is something that matters only to the viewer, not to an observer.
