ive just recently noticed that certain smells can cause me anxiety...some on here say they have no sense of smell or taste but both of mine are ultra sensitive to the point that an air freshener can cause my anxiety to rise, wheras coffee is ok,but certain smells in certain rooms in my house can really get my anxiety/depression going...not because the rooms stink but because of air fresheners.
that familer smell of a certain bleach etc...

welcome to psychological symbolism land.

take your ticket and I will show you the way.

All the symptoms are really the same. Everything that smellstasteslooksfeels the different...you know deep down inside...its to forget that something about YOU and your LIFE is different.

But being so stubburn about holding on to your ego...you could never admit that maybe this time it's YOU.

No. it was the coffee. it had to be the coffee. Not the fact that I watch myself or control everything I do.

It had to be the smell of ammonia. THAT WAS DEFINITELY it. nevermind that i shape reality according to my fantasies and freak out when it doesn't work.

It was the pill I took today.

Never mind that I am also starving myself deliberately.

It was the way she looked at me.

Nevermind that i'm in a relationsihp that is co-dependent and I won't speak up.

It was the movie.

But not me, the star of my own life, thinking that everyone else's reactions to me are MY fault while simultaneously blaming them for my downfall.

It was the sun. And the moon. And the stars.

And maybe the fact that I close my eyes when someone says "hey, you might be doing something wrong here in this life."

It was the wool sweater.

Not the wool I pull over my eyes in the face of responsibility.

It was something else.

It. could. never. EVER. have. been. me.

needing to change

needing to speak up

needing to go out on my own.

no.

never.

ever.

keep smelling for the latest shift of reality instead and cry when you can't feel real.

keep smelling for what is not there.

It's just coffee.

try the smell of cocaine for something at least more thought-provoking.

or an alternative is to call everyone up in the world and tell them to dispose of anything that has an aroma that might make you anxious. that will stop your dp, oh of course it will. SHAPE everyone else to your reality, shape all situations to your wishes. Just like you do with your real life relationships. Shape the world. Take out what doesn't smell right. Take out what doesn't feel right. Take out any quality that might not please you.

Throw away the benzos. Throw away the bad smells. Throw away religion. Throw away your mother. Throw everything away until there is NOTHING LEFT to make you anxious. Nothing but blackness.

And wonder why you're so afraid that blackness is all around you.

Take out the world.

Just ..try not to miss it too much.

I hate ammonia because that's exactly what the psyche hospital I was incarcerated in for almost two weeks smelled like.

It conjures up every image, every sound of that place for me.

Sounds good, but can you prove it?

I think it's much more likely that jc, like most people, has a number of smells that simply don't make him feel "right" - and never have - for no particular reason whatsoever. Everyone has smeels they do and don't like. If someone like jc is in an anxious state he's bound to be "hyper aware" of any smells, and a "bad" one's more likely than not bound to make him feel bad.

This makes more sense to me than saying that smells people don't like are somehow representative of their "inner conflicts"; that, to me, sounds like nonesense on stilts.

Not really nonsense.

See...the fact that one is so busy with these smells or things to the point of experiencing and watching anxiety increase is representative of another underlying problem. Why would anybody be so obsessed with such small shifts? Usually people are like "I don't like the way that smells" not "oh my god this smell makes my dp worse"
