Is it common to either feel off-balance or dizzy as a symptom of DP? I mean I've heard that its common its just that sometimes I get the feeling that my equilibrium has been impaired and that at any moment the world will start spinning (even though it hasn't yet). Is this common? Can DP really impair our balance?

I'm going to get a physical soon so I'm not simply going to write this off as psychological. I'm just curious how many people this happens to and if it causes you anxiety. I sometimes fear I'll pass out or be physically incapacitated.

Scattered -

Dizziness doesn't come with my DP, but that does not mean it isn't common. I remember many people on this forum discussing vertigo.

Sometimes I get dizzy if my sinuses are bad. I know it is hell. I hate being dizzy.

Does taking OTC medication help for that (like a Tylenol?). It may get you back on balance.

Scattered, dp/dr can make you feel dizzy. I have suffered with the same problem off and on. When this happens to me it is as if the world suddenly went on a slant. Objects can look smaller or larger than they really are, foggy, distance seems to be effected also. All of these can happen with depersonalization. You are right though it is good to have it checked out to make sure there is not a physical reason for you feeling dizzy. Hope you feel better soon.

gem.

yah it happens when i'm outside alot because i feel all disoriented, not to mention the fog, tunnel vision etc.

I personally start looking with my eyes strangly, like i do when i get choppy vision. it could be that if you do that too.

Before my DR symptoms came along and kicked my arse all over the place i had gone to a specialist at my local hospital about feeling lightheaded and on the verge of dizzyness all the time (kinda like if i turned my head to fast the sensation would continue and i would feel like i was going to have a full on vertigo attack)...anyways, he did every test on me. Including shooting warm water into my ears in order to make me dizzy and loads of other FUN tests.

Long story short he said it was anxiety related, as apparently 50% of problems like dizzyness and lightheadedness are, as there was nothing physically wrong with me.

And as anxiety and DP/DR seemed to be so strongly linked it would not be suprising if this is the case here :?

Dizziness is the absolute worst symptom of my Anxiety and Depersonalization!!! It's constant 24/7. Never goes away. If it did go away, then I think I would be fine even if I still had the DP. It's not room spinning dizzy.... but it's Light headed drunk dizzy. I HATE IT!
