Dear all,

I have been reading this board for years and have just begun to post this past weekend.

I'd like to first throw out a general thanks to everyone who has ever posted for making my life a lot easier to bear for the past 6 years.

Initially I was convinced my derealization was strictly neurological, but some of Janine's posts resonated with me and I began to accept the psychological aspect of this disorder.

Recently, though, I've been intrigued by the connection between the visual disturbances that are part of DR and some suggestion on this board that they are related to some abnormality in the temporal lobe.

Does anyone have any more information on this? Any anecdotes?

Thanks,
Nate

Recently I briefly spoke with a specilaist,I saw him awhile ago about my chronic fatigue syndrome.
I was exaplaining my symptoms of dp,brain fog etc.He
talked about temporal lobe dysfunction, didn't really say much except yep.....that's all temporal lobe activity.

Cheers Shelly

The Depersonalization Research group at Kings College in London has discovered abnormal brain function with their sampling of peopl with DP/DR. I've attached the link for your edification (a bit thin on specific results but they do generalize their findings). I'm from the US and have actually considered flying over if they'd have me as a research subject.

Hard medical confirmation of our conditions is something we all seek. Educating the psychiatric community on our condition will be a slow and painful process because there just aren't enough of us to drive research by drug manufacturers and we all know that medicine these days is not driven by doctors as much anymore but instead by profitability. I think also to a certain extent there is a stigma in the shrink world - they believe DP/DR is a symptom rather than a condition so they treat anxiety and depression but not our worst symptom because they can't conceptualize such a condition so they think it must just be in our heads. Anyhow - enough of my rant. Just started posting myself. Let me know if you find anything else about the brain/neurological connection.
