After speaking to many suffers of DP/DR the cause of this phomenomen seems to be still unexplained. But, i have a different opinion, which seems to relate to sufferes experiences before DP/DR.

DP/DR often occurs after a person experiences life threatening danger, such as an accident, assault, or serious illness or injury.
Has anyone experienced these or anything similar prior to dp.

Yes, Redmist, both of my episodes with DR have begun after something had happened which led me to believe I was going to die. :-( I always say in reply to the fight or flight response...I flew and left my mind as I went. I can find some humor in it after many years of dealing with it...most of the time. So again, yes I agree with your thoughts.

yes, i agree.it seem logical why our brains would do that in the event of something terrible happening.but why do the affects stay for so long

This I do not know, Redmist. My first time lasted one year. This time...going on 15. Many people on this board have had it for a few days or for over 30 years. It is just a hell of a sickness. No rhyme or reason to it.

Sigh...

The title of this post is misleading, but:

DP/DR often occurs after a person experiences life threatening danger, such as an accident, assault, or serious illness or injury.
Yes, absolutely. It is, along with any psychological trauma, the cause of DR/DP.

DR/DP is explainable...for the reasons give. It is natures screwy way of disassociating from unbearable anxiety. What is unexplainable is how to recover from it, although of course there are many that have recovered, so there obviously IS a way - depending on the individiual.

I will pm you with what I have done to try and ward off the misery of DR. Others have read it a time or two so I'll spare them.
