Could this have any bearing on DP/DR do you think? I have always had a high pitched noice in my ears when there is silence for as long as I can rememeber. It used to worry me when I was little, I can't quite remember what I thought of it but I didn't like it.

Just a thought.

If this came on only after the DP, maybe it's possible. Though I don't understand what the connection could be. I've had severe tinnitus as far back as I can remember. But I've always thought of it as something separate and apart from the dp (which doesn't mean I couldn't be wrong).

No one has the same reaction to it, I guess (William Shatner was nearly driven to sui*** by it). In my case, that sound is so old and familiar that if it were to ever suddenly go away--the silence would be deafening.

I'm up so friggin early today cuz my tinnitus is unusually bad! I've only had it for like 6 months, but your post reminded me of this paper I read that seems to suggest that there is a connection between the deficiency of GABA/benzodiazepine receptors in the medial temporal lobe system of the brain and tinnitus (and other symptoms of course like anxiety, stress, depression, and fear...dp/dr) One of the many functions of GABA/BZ is to keep the brain quiet. maybe you've been deficient in GABA sine you were a kid? dunno...but i wish my head would stop buzzing today.

Is there anything that can be done about it?

Whenever there is no ambient noise I can hear a high pitched noise like an old TV, and sometimes I get a lower pitched noise in my right ear :? Only every now and then, I can live with that.

Xanax is actually often prescribed for tinnitus, but obviously you can't take benzos forever. it's not a coincidence either that tinnitus is a common withdrawal symptom from benzos, even for people who never had it. I sometimes pop an extra Klonopin when the buzzing is extra loud, and it kills it right away.

i guess the only reasonable option is to take a GABA precusor supplement like L-Glutamine, and maybe Ginko since blood flow is also suspected to have something to do with tinnitus. i'm gonna get Ginko today, see if that helps.

lemme know if you find something that works...

I only got tinnitus when I started taking paxil & that was 2.5 years ago. It hasn't gone away since. But it does get worse during stress.

Dammit, what the hell is wrong with me

I've had this my whole life yet, until the cravings for obscenely loud music came into play, :D have had bloody good hearing.
