I made a huge mistake, which was playing football my sophomore year of high school. Not only did I take a years worth of sub concussive hits, my brain suffered a concussion with the force of 100+Gs. Right after the season, I entered into a major depressive episode. Many people say I was never the same. A year later, depersonalization would hit, and psychiatric symptoms would only get worse.
Here is a link to a video where I would finally make the connection:

I didn't have any sons in my home. If I had, I wouldn't have allowed them to play contact sports. I played hockey in high school. I took a hit to my head which cost me 4 teeth. 2 were expelled whole on the ice. I still am a fan of hockey today, but not the unnecessary rough stuff. I would like to see the NHL adopt the international size rink where there is more room to skate and pass (13' wider at the lines), while reducing density of players on the ice, thereby reducing player collisions. Nothing wrong with soccer, in my opinion, once you get passed the boredom factor. lol
