Hello again. Don't know if you guys still remember me, I keep coming and going. Well anyway, I noticed that whenever I spend lengthy periods of time on the computer, it makes everything worse. Like I was looking at pics online of random things and then I went outside and it was like I couldn't adjust. I felt like I shouldn't be able to interact with things outside because you can't on a computer screen. It really makes my DR worse after I'm on a computer for a while. Does anyone else have something like this?

i found using my computer alot doesnt help at all, and at a younger age i used to use it excessively even too myself, i still probably do use it way too much.

if i have notihng to do that day i'll sit infront of the comp from 10am to 1am, my dp/dr/axniety is really bad then.

try and stay off the computer, it really doesnt help at all, and i heard it stimulates the eyes too much, which doesnt help with anxiety etc.

Me too - I also sit in front of the computer excessively - and also find the same result.

In the summer I hardly spent any time at the computer, and my DP was non-existent.

I'm really wondering if there is a connection here.

i believe there is a connection...living too much in a virtual world isnt good...have you noticed that if you sit at the pc for a long time then go out into the 'real world' there is suddenly a strange sense of being locked into that virtual world...very strange

i spend more time than i should in an mmorpg (massively multiplayer online role playing game for all you non gamers), and when i get off the computer everything feels what i can best describe as empty. i'm also addicted to my computer, and i too think that excessive use of it is bad.

Shadow, the explanation for that is more than likely you going from being dissociated (engulfed in something, blocking other things off, looking at your pictures) to being fully aware of everthing around you. This happens to non DP'ed people all the time. You read a book, you play a video game and times flies. Where'd it go? Then you snap back into it, and there's that transition. It's probably because being at a level of dissociation with dp/dr, you feel the shift a lot more. Try to do your best to just ignore it, and I'll just bet ya it goes away.

Yes, spending too long on the computer or watching tv makes my dp much worse, though it helps my depression temporarily. I only noticed it a couple of months ago and now I try to minimize both.

Playing a video game, for more than 30 minutes, throw me in a full blown DR, Tv helps it.
Playing Unreal Tournament is a killer, but playing a small strategic game without too much movement is fine.

It feels like my eyes cant follow fast movements anymore, DR is fatigue, fatigue of the CNS.

!!! I just realized why I hate/can't play video games! No one can understand why they can't entice me to play, but none of them have dp! Another thing I can't do anymore is enjoy carnival rides. I used to love the scariest ones, but as my dp got worse, I became really disoriented and nauseous on them and at that point I really felt I lost a chunk of what I liked most in life. I get a similar sensation from sitting in front of a large screen at a movie theatre. I can't go to those simulated action shows at omnimax theatres, etc. I get really disoriented. Well, it's (theatres) not so bad now after months of treatments.
