so to speak, anyway.

What are your experiences with trying to tell people about your DP? How have they reacted? I've only told one person. I wouldn't know how to begin telling my family. I don't think they should know about it, in my opinion. It might lead to them feeling pity, and I hate pity.

What happened when you tried telling friends and family? Or, are there others who, like me, prefer to keep it hush-hush?

ive told loads of people, i have a good sense of humor and me and my mates joke about it , that may seem a bit twisted to some people but i guess its just my way of dealing with it, i talk about it alot with my bro cus we both heavily into psychology, and ud be surpised how people without dp have similar things, he says he gets it when he can hardly tell the difference better being awake and asleep. I think u need to talk about it, if u keep it bottled up ur make urself feel soo lonely as i did for the first 3 years of dp. plus my friends need to know as we go out clubbing alot etc and they understand when i say i cant come out, takes away the whole stupid i feel sick excuse. i spose it depends on the sorta people u hang around with. cheers jay

well, the one person I did tell is my boyfriend. I talk to him about it all the time. We joke about it, he makes me feel better. But I just don't see why anyone else needs to know. I met him before my DP started, so it's been rough on us both. But we still have marriage plans, and as long as he knows and accepts me, I don't need others to know.
