Does anyone have any experience coming off from Clonzepam? I have taken it over a longer time now and have my anxiety under Control therefore I would like to get rid off it. Any advise would be welcome.

I took clonazepam for a 6 months on a couple of different occasions. I took it for intense anxiety associated with major depressive episodes.. When I no longer needed it; I discontinued it. I had no withdrawal issues whatsoever. It was a life saver for me.

If I needed it, I would take it again without hesitation. I haven't needed it in more than 5 years.

Taper off nice and slow buddy. Benzodiazepines in general enhances the GABA neurotransmitter but this effect is not natural. (duh)

Find out if your benzo is short-acting or long-acting.

With shorts, withdrawals can start the same day or the next morning. With longs, it may take up to 2 weeks.

Good luck and be patient. From what I gather, getting off benzos is not pleasant but with the right tapering and guidance, the withdrawal symptoms can me minimal.

You are right in saying that my anxiety was under control when taking a higher dosis. I have now cut it down considerably and find in cases of severe anxiety or DP, it does not make a difference.

I'm on a number of drugs right now with Clonazepam being one of them and I was thinking to drop a few with, again, Clonazepam being one of them. I was trying to learn techniques on how to do it better as I heard that you can't simply stop with it. I appreciate all the responses i found here and i would appreciate if you would come back with updates james2368. Would do the same when I would start my withdrawal off it. thanks!

The first reduction I made was 1/4 of the dose. This went very well. I did not find a big difference. I tried this again and it did not work. My doctor than put me on liquid clonazepam and I am reducing by 0,1 steps. As eddy1886 correctly says, you have to do it carefully. Important is to stick with the reduction even if it is difficult. Otherwise you will never be able to get rid of it.

How is it going James? I am going through benzo withdrawal right now. Take it slow and steady and pay attention to any physical or mental issues that might come up. You are doing the right thing getting off that crap. It is a short term medication, you will probably see less and less people being prescribed benzos for anxiety. It really is one of the worst medications to treat anxiety in the long term. It often makes things much worse.
