I've had this dp/dr non stop for about one month now.

Anyway, I noticed after I took my cough syrup ( nasty cold) that has codeine, it took away my dp/dr.

How weird is that? I think it was the 1st time I felt relief from this in about 35 days.

I wonder why codeine would help with it??

It's not so weird, at all. Sometimes codeine will make a person much worse, sometimes make them feel great. Same is true for Benedryll, or any major anti-histimine.

Remember, the goal with meds is to give the person a feeling of well-being, to feel Safe, or GOOD enough....if the mind can feel ego-safety, it can "relax" itself long enough to re-instate a sense of inner balance, which might make the dp/dr state "unncessary"

Caution: codeine is very sneaky as an addictive med...just like sleeping pills, or pain killers. It might work for awhile, but if you abuse it, it will CAUSE the derealization to get much worse.

Oh no, I don't plan on using this as my escape. I have a father who is an addict so I am overly cautious if anything.

I just found it odd that it helped me like it did.

I also notice that when I drank a boat load of coffee the other day, my dp/dr went away for a few hours.

Maybe it's just the stimulant effect from the caffeine and codeine (codeine is more of a stimulant for me- puts my husband to sleep like a baby).

coffee, diet pills with caffine, ephedra, especially sodas make me feel better. the fog is lifted and i can get on with things. it doesnt last of course and the only one i abuse is the soda .. i also have ADD and i know that stimulants can help aleviate some of the symtoms.

correct me if i'm wrong (miligram/med-types counters), but i think mate waht happened was the same thing as when i take klonopin. it lifts yer anxiety...because it makes you sleepy and has a somewhat opiate effect. if you took a klono 1mg, or a valium 1mg, chances are yer gonna feel the same thing...but then everyone's different, and i can't be bothered with arguments about how that's not true...

just my opinon. it's not so suprising. glad you found something that worked though. hopefully you can get the Rx for the drug that's in it that 'corrects' wot's damaged in yer chemical balance, y'know?

Ha ha when I first looked at the title of this thread I thought it said COCAINE stopped my dp/dr! now that would be some good news! Only downside is everone with dp/dr would look like daniella westbrook, but looking on the brightside at least we'd be able tell everyone who had dp and dr, howzer!
