HOW CAN U BE DETACHED AND BORED AT THE SAME TIME. IF YOU ARE DETACHED ONE CANNOT POBBIBLY FEEL BOREDOM AT THE SAME TIME. BOREDOM IS A FEELING... BECAUSE U ARE AWARE U ARE ATTACHED TO WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND YOU AND U "FEEL" BORED. SO FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT SAY U ARE BORED U MAY NOT BE AS DETACHED AS YOU THINK...!!!!!

There are differing levels of detachment. I can say I'm bored most of the time and yet also feel somewhat detached during that same time. If I was experiencing EXTREME detachment, then I probably wouldn't be bored. I'd be freaking out/crying etc.

And just because you are detached doesn't mean you're incapable of feeling. At my worst detachment I still had feeling. Its just that all I was able to feel was fear, terror, anxiety.

Depends on what you define "detachment" as. I see it as not feeling connected to other people and my surroundings or lacking some essential human quality of existence that makes me feel like an actual person - consistently. If this sort of thing makes it into your daily life, it's totally possible to feel bored, anxious and detached... or any other range of emotion and detachment. A lot of people are dulled down. I think you're looking to much into the word. "Numb" is a word to describe a feeling too, but it generally means "un-feeling."

my thought is how do you define boredom? isn't being bored just a feeling of 'nothingness'? if i'm bored, i have nothing to do (well i do but i dont want to do it!) so i sit and stare into space..therefore feeling detached. mmmm, i dont know. i just wonder whether boredom is an actual feeling? or is it a thing you just say? i agree with fingertingle...the word boredom prob doesnt really mean that much really. hope this makes sense lol! cx

I wouldn't say so. I equate boredom with frustration, itchy lethargy, restlessness. Boredom, for me, is a nasty thing. A very tangible thing, not like 'nothingness' or DP at all.

At the same time, again in my case, boredom can be an affliction that prevents from actually doing anything. For example - last night I had nothing to do. God, I was so bored. So I tried reading. No luck. Boredom prevented me from concentrating. So I tried watching TV. Again, boredom reminded me how boring the shit on TV was. So I went and made some pasta. Only ate three mouthfulls because I got bored of it. WTF?

for me boredom is a breeding ground for DP. I can't just sit and not do anything without stressing out about. i think we may have an inability, to a certain degree, to tolerate negative feelings like boredom? I don't really get bored, unless I'm at some place where I can't leave and go and do something else, having to listen to people talk bores me (lectures/conferences etc)
I don't get bored at home, I get anxious!
