Johnny- I don't think that its the St. Johns wort making you anxious. You have too much time on your hands if you are just "looking for something to do". The best thing you could do for yourself is to get involved in something new-something that requires you to use your brain. You won't have time to notice how anxious you are feeling. When you force your mind to get involved - you might be amazed at how well it can cooperate.

SJW is very calming Mike. You may want to do what willow said and try to keep really busy.

it's Mike right? Or should I call you Utah?

Utah - in that case - why don't you come to NY and fell "bored" at my house! LOL - Actually - a few weeks ago I was feeling a little anxious and I attacked my basement - it looks great down there now. Even so - I think a new hobby is in order for you Utah. Think about what it is you might really enjoy doing and then do it - alot. And Ken is right too - ST. Johns wort IS calming usually but more effective after a few weeks of taking it. If you have just begun with it - give it some time.

well from my experience st. johns wort is only calming when your depressed it keeps your mood stabilized. But im not depressed to the point where im sadd all the time, i take it for motivation and i do notice it does get me anxious.

I try to keep busy if i can , nothing too strenuous other than the gym most days, but when i am at home, then i play acoustic guitar to take my mind off things, even playing the x box distracts me...

Hi Guys
I was just about to come on here & post my own I'm bored post!

Well it has been 1 month for me off the pills & no dp anxiety panic for at least 4 months. The first time in 3 years! I would say that my change in lifestyle must have something to do with it!

Utah, St Johns Wort & other calming herbs can definitely have the opposite effect on some people. If we were all the same than there would be one pill that would cure us all. So if you feel better off it than stop taking it.

Also, boredom definitely makes me begin to feel anxiety symptoms. I use to just get dp or have a panic attack. These days I'll just have a fitful nights sleep or start having those introspective questions about life - which thankfully now I can switch off instead of going into them & brining on the dp.

So definitely go do something out of the ordinary for you. Something different which will stimulate the senses. For me that is going & meeting new people. You could go to the gym, library etc. Anything that keeps your mind off yourself is a winner & with long term persistence of this your dp/dr will fade. That is how it has been for me anyway.

yea i stopped and i feel better, im not one to start bitchin out of nowhere so im sorry.
i had to stop it too, it weakens the effects of my benzos, so i was getting more anxious. not only that, i just read in one of Dr. Amen's books that people with temporal lobe type anxiety get worse on serotonin enhancing drugs, he specifically used SJW as an example. great.
