Benzos and Weed Induced DP

I have a question about Benzos like Xanax and if anyone has any experience or advice about combining them with smoking weed after being depersonalized/derealized.

My first bout with DP/DR happened 4 years ago when I was 14. I'm not sure what brought it on, but I recovered after about a year and a half to about 95% recovery (extremely livable if you've experienced lower percentages).

My second experience happened about 6 months ago (age 18) after a marijuana induced panic attack. I had been smoking weed every day for about 7 months straight about .5-1 gram a day, missing maybe 2-3 days in that 7 month span. It's important to know that my stress was at an all time high, my diet was at an all time low (lost 25 pounds in few months) and I developed social anxiety, to the point where I would throw up whenever I had to leave my dorm room, and probably a touch of depression (first year away at college, moved from Southern California to Oklahoma). Pretty easy to see why I lost my weight.

Anyway, I'm now living at home and my anxiety has gotten extremely better, my diet is back to normal, and I'm ready to be happy, except for this whole DP/DR thing has only recovered to about 70%. I feel like every day is a step towards recovery so I'm cautious about anything that could take away from it.

Smoking was a social event for me and everybody I know does it. I've been clean for 6 months but I really want to smoke with my friends again. I smoked about 4 times after my panic attack, each time unpleasant and with some panic. That's why I am a little reluctant to try again. Reluctant more than afraid.

I only have a little experience with Benzos, alprazolam. I've only taken a .25 mg dose for anxiety and it didn't do much for me.

I'm just wondering if taking a higher amount of a benzo before smoking will let me enjoy smoking with my friends while still being able to feel the effects and not have a terrible time.

0.25 mg is a very small dose, it's the lowest one they prescribe as far as I know. Sometimes 0.25 helps for me but it's never -noticeable-. Between 0.5 and 1 mg may be necessary.

If you're going to smoke weed either way, then yeah taking xanax 30 minutes before you do it would reduce the chance of you having a panic attack or paranoia whien you smoke. I don't know if it would prevent depersonalization, but it I am sure it wouldn't make it worse.
