Hello guys,

About two months ago, I went somewhere sunny for 17 days. I hardly had access to the laptop or phone and was doing a lot of walking outside in the sun. It was difficult at the beginning but after a few days, I started to see that I was improving. By the end of my trip, I felt that I was about to recover completely. As soon as I came back home to study/work without any exposure to the sunlight with extremely short days, I had a powerful relapse. I was wondering if (the problem if we could afford) travelling somewhere sunny and getting away from phones, laptop, Tv, etc could help us get out of this situation... I am considering going away for a whole month next May to somewhere where I can enjoy the sun, beach, have good food and try to leave my laptop back at home. What are your thoughts on this?

The changes you outline are to increase Vitamin D, reduce stress and obsess less by being on holiday and experiencing new things. I had a similar improvement when I went on holiday to a remote country about a year ago. However, you can of course experience all of these improvements by not leaving your town/city - vitamin D supplements, removing stress anyway and being involved in something new i.e. a hobby which takes your mind away from obsessing from DP. Going on holiday though as you outline is an easier way to combine the lot, providing you can afford it.

I couldn't agree more, being in the UK sucks for the weather as we get minimal amounts of sun. Combine that with having a screen 6 inches from our face for 8 hours a day it makes you wonder.... I feel if I could get away somewhere and reconnect with nature, not a holiday but perhaps working on a farm or something like that would give life such purpose.

There are lots of places in Europe and south America that will feed and shelter you in return for labour just google working holidays, then all you need is to pay for a flight. Then you can post your recovery story and tell us all to move to a desert island!
