This is something I find difficult and hurtful. Do you find that you get into situations that you cannot read quickly enough because of DP/DR and somebody not disadvantaged can get the better of you, either getting away with being rude etc. or finishing with a situation in the way they need when you can't? I've been patronised, bullied, fobbed off, all because of situations that happened because of dpd and then for the same reason those people could get away with it. Even psychiatric nurses could do it - though most were good. In an argument I can be got the better of because I can't keep up with the significances of what's going on or the fair interpretation. Then there are some embarrassing situations which happen because of dpd. Anyway, people can take control of their agenda and do what they need to do but I catch up so much later because of non-immediate reality, by which time it's too late. And I've been seen as something I'm not. If dp was known then people might allow but they have no idea. Can you tell when people are joking or insulting?

This is all frustrating, the bastards. Does this happen to you? And don't you just know that actually you are more intelligent than the people who do this? Perhaps it is a rude world out there and it's more hurtful because of dpd.

Yes yes yes, i know what you mean Absent. Being seen for something
you're not, it's the most frustrating thing.

But i've come to accept it. Cause deep down inside i know who
i am and as i have gotten older now i don't care as much about
other people's judgements like i used to.

If someone's rude to me and i haven't got a good comeback,
i've learnt to settle for a mediocre comeback.

And also i don't believe one can be terribly hurt by a stranger
as much as someone close to them.
And it's also never too late to get the better of someone
when that someone is someone close to you or that you see
regularly. Because then you have time to find out where they're
weak and target that weakness. Although i don't reccommend
revenge.

Just some thoughts.

I think that it's not actually people getting the better of you. I think that's a paranoid side effect of dp/dr. I get into pretty bad arguments with my boyfriend sometimes where I'm actually thinking "that's not fair, he's cheating. He's actually lying about something I said that I didn't say just to win this argument!!" But in reality, after it's all said and done and the argument is over, I realize that the only reason I was thinking those thought while we were arguing was because becoming so angry and stressed caused severe dissaciation, and it made me totally confused about reality, and the reality in my mind. I really don't think people are getting the better of you, I just think that when you feel like you're being insulted, your dp/dr kicks into heavy, sudden overdrive, so the reality of the confrontation is really not what it seems to you at the moment.
