hi there people...

i have posted in a veeeeeeeeeeeeeery long time and thought i would give those of you who may wonder what i have been up to and update...

as far as the dp and dr go...it is still as bad as it has been...still all day every day...dispite all my efforts of focusing outward...

i still work as a charity shop volenteer...

i have engaged in more hobbies...

i go out the house a little more for a longer period of time...

have even socialised a little...

been FAR more healthy and had moer exercise...

i know it does not sound much...but all this has been hard work...and so far...nothing has changed in how i feel...to be honest i hardly think about dp or dr anymore...just try and do things through the day but everything just still feels wrong...the dp and dr just refuse to lift right now...

i also had to take a trip to the Reumatologist at the hospital (which was yesturday)...

seems i have a mild case of something called 'pain syndrome' which means i feel pain in general more than a 'normal' person would...i have hypersensitive pain receptors which are over active all the time...which is heightened by the fact i have a panic disorder as my body and mind are on alert all the time!

i also have hyperextendable joints which cause my joints to bend in ways they should not, past their 'natural boundry'...for example my elbow joints bend back in the other direction further than they should...and because of the pain syndrome, i feel more pain than a 'normal' person would with these kind of joints!

and every joint in my body is hyperextendable with hypersensitive pain receptors so no wonder why i bloody hurt so much!

so i have had a blood test that lasted nearly 10 minutes to get 6 vials of blood out of me...

i have been told that not much can be done for me other than just be careful...keep healthy...and i am going to have some physiotherapy sessions to see if that helps...other than that...just got to do what i can with having it...

as for the pain...the only thing i can really do is take pain killers...which i cannot do as i get allergic reactions!

i have had joint troubles since i was about 10 years old and all i was told is that it was growning pains...even when i told the doctor again at 14 and 15 years old that it was getting worse they did nothing...

now i am 20 and all my joints crack and hurt and ache...

ok i know that not much could have been done as nothing much can be done for me now with this...but i could have had physio at an earlier age and that might have stopped it progressing...

ah well...life goes on :) should not moan really...there are worse things in this world...

it is just so odd having conflicting feelings of numbness and pain all the time...

well that is me for now...take care people...

i do still come and read what is going on here when i can and my best wishes are with you all...:)

Did you hear about the study reported recently that an ingredient in cough medicine (I think it's dextromethorphane) like Robitussin has been found somewhat useful for people suffering from fibromyalgia? Maybe ask around or ask your doc?

I just want to encourage you because you haven't given up and that's awesome! It's hard enought to just have dp/dr but with the added stress of physical pain, that is overwhleming. I know how one day can seem like an eternity and you wonder if you will ever survive. I marvel at those of you who have suffered for years with this suffering. I just want to say your post encouraged me, shadowness, to keep going so thanks!

This is a bit off the subject (glad to hear you're making so much effort now, btw), but given your predisposition for allergic reactions to meds, might it be possible for you to sue these idiots who gave you that effexor? (That was what brought your dp/dr on, wasn't it?)

Your case might be even stronger if you already had records on file with a doctor to the effect that you had a strong tendency for this to happen.

I know how very American that must sound, but try to think of it this way: if they did this to you, don't they owe you?

that you all for you replies...i very much appreciate them :)

Sojourner...i have not heard about that. thank you for the info.

britters602...thank you so much for those kind words...you just got to do what you can with whatever life throws at you...and i am not going to let this stop me either...right now things are very tough and as you say you wonder how you will ever survive...but i have been surviving...i have no idea how...but i have...and so i may as well keep going...

enigma...i have already asked about all this and there is nothing that can really be done...i have only developed allergic reactions to things since taking the Effexor and so my doctor just thinks that i am over reaction and exaggerating the symptoms of any meds i get...which i do...of course i am now going to panic after what felt like a near death experience when taking the Effexor...but i do indeed have allergic reactions to things but they symptoms can be passed off as something else...Effexor should have been perfect really for the feelings and thoughts i had caused by my panic disorder but unfortunately i had a very rare reaction which could not have been forseen...

again thank you everyone for your replies...really much appreciated and i do like to hear how other people see my situation as it helps me look at it all in different light and help myself more :)

take care everyone.

Hi shadowness, Glad to see things are easing though something still feels 'off', ever feel like there's some kinda life wax/wane???? About the effexor that brought on your dp/dr, you are not overreacting. I started having seizures on an antidepressant and cos it's a rare reaction they think i'm some kinda drama queen/schizo/overanxious/neurotic when I'm not at all......... I have considered suing because the fact is that I was on the medication even though i thought the side effects would wear off vbut they didn't and I know how my health is now, but I'm not gonna sue or consider it for a while, cos things are stressy enough. There is the Victims of Medical Accidents so you might want to google it if you want to.
Hope everything else is going ok for you xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Sojourner, good suggestion but actually isn't such a great one. Dextromethorphan or DXM is a dissociative drug. Giving someone with DP/DR a dissociative - not such a good idea I wouldn't think.

Shadowness, it is nice to see you post, I am sorry you are not feeling well. I understand how you feel when it comes to the dp/dr. Pain is also a very difficult to cope with, hope you feel a little bit better soon.

gem.

That's interesting - last time I was at the Kings College DP research place they tested me for joint hypermobility, as they had apparently found a correlation between it and DP/DR in a community in Spain. They were testing for a hypermobility gene. Don't know if anything came of it. My blood test came back negative.

I hope nobody interpreted that as medical advice 8) Do I need to say I'm not a doctor???
I just heard it on the news here the other day and thought maybe she could ask her doctor.

thank you everyone for your support and kind words :) i very much appreciate it...

i am just waiting for blood test results now...but i have to wait quite a few weeks for them...

i went back into work yesturday after having nearly two weeks off due to an ear infection and then due to having my hospital appointment and feeling too painful afterwards!

it was weird going back into work but i need to get back into it before i am too scared to go again...

thank you again everyone and take care of yourselves :)
