I don't see a point, since there are no treatments for DP / DR per se. When one sees a doctor they usually are treating either depression/anxiety or a physical condition that is believed to be causing the DP/DR (Lyme disease or migraines, for example).

Gave up on doctors and shrinks and therapists as regards treating my DP because ALL of them either thought it was something else or just pep talked me or sent me on my merry way with another prescription....

I only ever met one decent psychiatrist (way way back) who knew what I was talking about and who diagnosed me properly....He trialed a drug on me at the time and saved my life....Unfortunately he retired soon after....He may have even passed on at this stage as he was an older doctor and this was back in the early ninetees...

Ive since discharged myself from the mental health service completely because I was sick of being stared back blankly and being told I was just depressed or wasnt really that bad...

The final straw came when a few years back the senior shrink I demanded to see in the mental health clinic actually told me I wasnt ill enough to be considered for regular treatment as they were understaffed because of cutbacks..."We are only dealing with extreme cases" is what I was told.....To which I replied "Mental health care is a crock of shit"..............The next reply blew my mind...."Your probably right" Is what he said to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As regards therapists....Ive been through about 10 at this stage and NONE of them even knew what DP was let alone how to treat it.......All therapy ever did for my DP was put a deeper hole in my pocket....

I hope others have had better experiences than me though.....But I believe my story is all too common....I know people who have waited 6 months for mental health care appointments.....Meanwhile the suicide rate in the UK and Ireland is rocketing......

I best be quiet now before I upset the optimists on here....I apologize for my negative story but nearly 30 years of dealing with DP has made me a realist as reagrds mental health care, DP treatment, and doctors as a whole when it comes to this condition.....

I can get really fierce depression on top of my DP/DR, and I'm monitored for that. My doctor is only interested in my depression. I don't blame her, I would rather treat something I can do something about rather than monitor something that might never have a treatment.
