I have heard that Lexapro or Celexa has helped people with anxiety dp/dr, and depression. Just wondering if anyone has any horror or wonderful stories about either one of these meds. I tried Wellbutrin and Zoloft and my anxiety was WAY worse, so I want to get some feedback before I try one of these.

Thank you. If I can work up the courage, I might give it a try. Did you try anything else before Celexa?

Hi, I've been on Lex for 3 weeks now and overall my anxiety & DR are 30-40% better. I get less anxious and less detached less frequently. I have periods of actually feeling OK, which I haven't had for years. But then I go and have days like today where I could barely type an email.

I also found that I felt very depressed during the first week on it. My psych had never heard of that happening but I've read about it on a few boards.

As always, YMMV...

yeah I was actually just looking up 5-HTP and SJW. I might give one of those a try first. I tried Zoloft and Wellbutrin and my anxiety was absolutely terrible. I have a history of getting all the side effects of every medication I take. I am just so sensitive to all of it. Xanax works wonders but I am off of it now. I don't feel as good as I did when I was on it, but I can now tolerate life without it. I think that either means I am improving or I am just learning to cope with this. I really appreciate your responses. Thank you.

Believe me, you're better of without the mask they call Xanax. Might help you cope, but won't make you better. I'm not purely innocent though, I use Klonopin when I feel really anxious. I keep my doses low and only use when I absolutely have to. I don't wanna grow a tolerance to it. I usually only need .5 mgs.

Lexapro has worked wonders on my depression although not so good with my anxiety. Im on 20mg the highest dose and it works well with my depression absolutely no side effects except for a few in the beginning that have worn off

I've been a few weeks more on Lexapro and thought I'd post my findings. At the moment my "regular" anxiety is greatly reduced which is marvellous.

However, the time I spend DP/DR'd feels greatly increased. I say "feels" greatly increased because I can't tell if the anxiety I previously was encountering was in fact masking or displacing the DR/DP. Or if in fact my DP/DR has increased. I always find this trouble when on meds. People ask "is it working?" and it's never as simple as that

I went up to 20mg on Friday and am due to continue, disaster-permitting, for a few weeks. I will post again at that point.

Good luck Pete! You have my sympathies. Trying to find the right med has been horrific for me. Maybe you should decrease the dosage and see if that helps? Oh, how I wish I knew how to lead us all out of this mess.

I have to say, sadly, that trying Celexa, and only at the lowest dose, 10mg, was not very good for me... I went from feeling very low and some dp to feeling like I could not live...so I went on a very slow withdrawal from Celexa and now, three weeks after it finally ended, I feel like I am totally crazy and can't even stand being in my own skin. Yet somehow I am also still going to work and pretending I am okay. Anyway, I would not recommend Celexa at all...it is too scary for words.
I am hoping in a few more weeks, the withdrawal symptoms will go.
