After chronic DR for 18 years i feel that i've pretty much got it under control now. The anxiety is better than ever, but sadly i still have a vert deep depression.

Now, for a couple of months ago, i discovered amphetamine. This drug will wipe out my depressjon completely. When im high on speed i feel alive. Im extroverted, chatty and active.

But i wonder if longtime amphetamine abuse can bring my DR and anxiety right back to square one. Exactly how bad is this drug?

What kind of amphetamine is it?? My doctor prescribed me dexedrine, but I'm too scared to take it. But if it has that effect on you then damn, I just may try.

I think long-term use of any drug can be dangerous. That's why I'm anxious to start tapering off my prozac, but I can't til I see if the prozac/lamictal combo will start working.

Long term use of amphetamines can cause brain damage, paranoia, psychotic episodes, and other psychological and physical problems.
I don't know if its been clearly established whether or not the damage that is caused by amphetamines is permanent. Regardless, you should research the drug as well as the effects it has on your body short term as well as the effects of long term use or addiction.

Speed or meth is what gave me Severe Depression Anxiety and DP/DR. It took about a year of hell for it to start getting better for me. I still suffer from Depression and Anxiety but the DP/DR has let up big time!

Be very careful with meth... I've done studies on it and let's just say that it's horrible for you, even if the doc. gives it to ya. (Even when it's a controlled substance)

I do not know anything about prescription "uppers" but if your source is the street then good God I'd be scared. I buried two ol' buddies who were speed freaks back in the 70's. They were needle junkies, but it was speed (dex?) that killed them. I never did much of it (crosstops) because it made my already nervous dipositions more uptight. And if anxiety has such a relationship with dp/dr then increased anxiety could lead down the path for a few to dp land I spose.. I cannot see how street drugs could be beneficial in the long term. It may make you feel good now, but it will nail ya in the end. My ignorance will show here, but the words amphetamine and methamphetamine are used interchangeabley where I am from. If it is meth that you are using then that is a whole different story. Here people drop like flies from meth. Remember the old slogan in the sixties "speed kills"? It still can, whether it is dex or meth.

It's possible that you could suffer a heart attack at the hands of amphetamine, although unlikely. You should be alright unless you have pre-existing heart conditions, or go on massive binges. Oh, and you might also want to avoid depressants - be easy on your poor central nervous system.

But I cannot endorse taking street amphetamine to alleviate your symptoms. Speed, just like other medicines, is only a temporary solution. When you do come off the drug, which is going to eventually happen, you will probably feel even more depersonalised. The way to recover is to treat the condition with respect and maturity, not to cower behind some chemically-induced energy.

What we suffer from is a perceived loss of reality. Like Scattered said, you can and will develop speed-psychosis from prolonged use. The worst will happen and you will lose touch with reality. This is not to mentioning the high chance of addiction and withdrawal. If you value your mind and body, teeth and jaw, then I implore you to keep away from amphetamine.
