Simon,
I'm really interested in the techniques you used. Could you post them again or at least supply some information on the type of CBT you practised.
Milan, unfotunately none of the archives have those posts so I'll have to try to describe it as best I can.
The main part was to do with attention - getting me out of my constant inner running commentary and putting my attention back on things in the world.
One part was to have the threapist read me something very boring and meaningless to me, and also have a tape of a regular slow tapping noise at the same time. Every ten seconds or so she would say 'switch' and I would remove my focus (I prefer to say attention) from listening to one to the listening to the other. In doing this I wouldn't be able to persist in my inwardness and internal thoughts. It progress to just using sounds ( tape of a regular beat and a clock ticking on the other side of the roon - this was
' homework' and then to focusing on something visually and ignoring the sounds.
The whole idea was to learn to let the world in by having to pay attention to one thing as opposed to the other so that extraneous thoughts couldn't get in the way in the way.
Um, if you need any more explanation, please say.
