you backed almost all the runners in the horserace with that list, with the red hot favourite 'existential angst' at the top.he's a tough nut to beat.i think if there is a way to soften this dread, adhedohnia, apathy, meaninglessness, search for meaning, constant musing and rumination, then we wouldnt be logging on to sites like this one.
i think the worst thing we can do is to fight our personality type.this only multiplies our frustration and worsens our condition.we are naturally DEEP thinkers and feelers of life and ourselves.there is no point in trying to distill any more causes of dp/dr other than existential angst.how do we cope?

good luck.but i wonder if you are as stressed as you think you are.there could be many people without any psychiatric condition much more stressed.the problem with this thing is'nt stress if you asked me,its lack of meaning in life, which is very hard to handle with or without stress.but i have no miracle answer for you,so im in no position to tell you what or what not to do or try,so follow your gut instinct.

For me through the week its at about a level 9 from 6am (when i wake up) to 10pm (when i get home) . 10pm to 1am its at about a 5. Then on the weekends it ranges from about a 6 to about an 8. Not a damn break in 2 years.

The horrid thing about the DR I've had is that it can be brought on purely by thinking deep thoughts. Its a hell purely contructed by thinking.
Of course, when relaxed and invloved with life, those thoughts don't emerge.

My energy healer said during touch-healing sessions that my mind was often not in my body! She said this was quite common with many of her clients, and that part of her task was to get these parts of people back into peoples bodys. Trauma often causes this. I know this may seen rather new age for the nuts and bolts biochemistry ppl on this forum. I do not believe the brain is the only component of conciousness, but likewise one cannot dismiss the brain as an organ of vital importance to ones mental awareness.

She hasn;t had DR, but she could understand somewhat what it was all about -- "seems like your mind goes off 'somewhere' and starts falling into some sort of abyss" - yes exactly. Touching the void.

Part of this then may be the mind literally not being where it should be, grounded in the physical vessel - split off from its wholeself.

For deep thinkers though, its a challenge to figure out what you are supposed to DO with your thinking ability, other than try to learn to learn to not think too much. Humans have evolved to become very intelligent concious beings (well, not always :)...there must be a reason, else we'd have smaller brains and live the life of a cat.
