I've had dpd (really derealization) for almost 20 years (since April 1996). However, I have not let it stop me from accomplishing goals in my life. I have a PhD in Biology (Genes and Development), and I have worked as a scientist and now a scientific writer since 2001. I love my pets, and I have been with my 'boyfriend' since November 1996..so nearly 20 years as well. Time for us to get married, right??? LOL!
I wish everyone the best in their lives, and the ability to live life to the fullest however that may be. Also, remember that other people are suffering with horrible physical illnesses (cancer, MS, etc.) and also mental illnesses (schizophrenia, major depression, etc), so we are not alone in our struggles. Have compassion for yourselves and for others.
Lastly, one positive thing about dpd is that I feel as if having 'neutral' emotional responses to things makes you look younger since your face doesn't get contorted as much...kinda like botox My profile pic was taken a few months ago (age 37)...I have definitely aged gracefully
