Of course, the brain can somehow simulate emotions, because while you're dreaming whatever's happening in the dream can make you feel emotional. If you suddenly wake up, you may still feel the emotion you was just feeling.

Edit, I re-read your post.

No one understands even why we dream, but your brain can be very stupid in dreams and make mistakes like your hand warping or whatever, let alone if your brain can simulate a phone and all its crazy functions.

You're awake, trust me.

In Topic: Does really distracting you from the feelings/thougts from DP cure it?

Life was 99.9% distracting before DP. You're just a slightly evolved monkey, you're not meant to notice your own consciousness.

I was oblivious to life, I think DP is really an anxiety of noticing you're existence on a floating rock in an arbitrary universe, you're better of being a monkey and not thinking about it. Mines getting better, I've just learnt not to give a f.

Do you also get hyper self awareness "shocks"? Like freaking out suddenly when realizing that you're here and human?

I had that before full blown dp as a teenager, I would randomly notice where I am standing, say in a shop and all of a sudden the meaning of life and my existence in 0.2 seconds gets rushed through my head and my eyes feel like they've gone to the back of my head - if that makes sense.

I got an Electroencephalogram.  It showed I had a history of epileptic seizures.  I had been having focal temporal lobe seizures for 40 years, and didn't realize it.

My epileptic syndrome included the affective disorder of major depression with insomnia and anxiety.  Having severe insomnia and anxiety in addition to ocular migraines,

and focal temporal lobe seizures will have you experiencing every psychiatric symptom in the book, as well as some unique symptoms designed just for you.

So, why wonder if it is seizures or  not?  Just get a referral to a neurologist and get an EEG. If they give you a hard time, just tell them my story.

40 fucking years I suffered for lack of an EEG.  Don't be me.

So these focal seizures, does anyone else notice them? Is it like high functioning - like a background thing you don't notice? Say like, is it possible to drive and it not effect you? How does it go undiagnosed for 40 years? Doctors now adays just want to push pills and get you out as fast as possible, so I can't ask for an EEG. They'd just give me a bunch of neuro tests and say I'm fine.
