negative thinking dementia

I'm 65 and I'm starting to not be able to remember names of things.  I guess I'm not too advanced dementially, if I am still cognizant of my decline.

I often wondered what the long term effect would be, of suffering pretty severe symptoms of depression such as insomnia, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, etc.

Now I am reading that RNT, or repetitive negative thoughts can make you a candidate for dementia.  Maybe this is what was meant when they said 

"old soldiers don't die, they just fade away"?
