It is quite possible to trigger DP/DR by meditating.

Dr. Willoughby Britton has done some good research about adverse effects of meditation.

There is no such thing. It's like asking if someone got bp disorder or anxiety disorder from meditation ?? You can meditate and take your mind to calm places but not getting such disorders from that.

LOL. People who are prone to dissociation can get triggered by pretty much anything. Meditation changes your state of mind, same as a drug, so sure, it could trigger DP. There are plenty of people on this site and r/dpdr who got DP from meditating.

Anitas, I think it is unlikely to trigger DP from basic mindful meditation or by focusing on breathing.

But there are other contemplative types of meditation (such as Vipassana etc). These are the types of meditations that are likely to trigger DP or other distressful states of mind.

When I was first discovering about DP I watched a presentation by Dr. Willoughby Britton about "Depersonalization triggered by meditation". It was on vimeo but it seems that video is not available now.

A friend of mine got fullblown dpdr from intense meditation, but he was prone to dissociation before. Its been 3 years now, hes gotten much bette rbut still has it. Meditation is very much a double edge sword.
