Hi there,

Just a quick question for anyone in the Toronto area:  Can any of you recommend a psychiatrist/psychologist/therapist/hypnotist/shaman in Toronto that might have helped you in the past with DP.  I'm finding it extremely difficult (as per usual) to find anyone that has heard of depersonalization in more than just a passing way.  I'd be interested even if you've visited a psychologist and they've used methods to get your anxiety under control that you've found helpful.  Basically, just looking for a place to start...again.

Thank you, folks.

s.

I'm from Europe, but I have been very lucky to find an expert in dp-disorder in a 40 mile radius. So maybe try the internet again with different searchwords like I did again and angain untill I grew tired of it, bit then eventually I found an article that led me to a specialist in the region. It aint easy because it took me years to find the right person, but I'm sure that you may be able to find aperson who has some knowledge about dp in Toronto-area. Good luck, never give up!

Yeah, keep on trying... and maybe also search for 'dissociation' instead of dp-disorder. And don't shy away for alternative healing type of personas of sites, because sometimes they know more then the official healtcare. Or at least it's worth to try once or twice. Often the alternative circuit has experience in psychology as well, plus something extra on some occasions that we need to feel understood.

Hey,

I live in Toronto. I have seen probably over 20 psychiatrists in the last 10 years and none of them have really been familiar with Dp. The most helpful doctors have been the ones who sort of let you treat yourself, in a way. Do research on different meds and say you would like to try this or that. It's usually trial by error. I have found that all one can really do is get the anxiety under control and eventually you will stop focusing on the dp. It's sort of like a trick- if you dont focus on it, its not there. I'm trying to get back to that point myself currently.
