Hello everyone, as the topic title suggests, I'm wondering if DP/DR can be induced by anything else than anxiety? Can it come on its own? I've got my DP/DR after smoking weed, and I'm just wondering now.. Coz I've read (not in the internet only but in a specialisation books) that it doesnt reaally matter whether DP/DR is caused by weed or by something else, and that from all the situations, the main reason why we get depersonalized is becuase (consciousely or subconsciousely) we feel anxious. The thing is, I am wondering now, whether it is always the case? Like, isn't it possible to get depersonalized on its own, out of nowhere? Coz I remember the day I got stoned, and the moment the depersonalization came..and actually I would be quite cofident to say my panic attack came because I started to feel terribly werid(depersonalized, now I know) and that's why I had a panic attack..Not the other way round, that I got the panic attack and then got depersonalized because of that? Or maybe it all happened too quickly, and I just feel like it might have been the other way round, but it really wasn't? I am actually confused now. Well, second option would make a lot more sense, but the thing is, as I said, I feel more like I got scared of depersonalizaton, not of panic attack and got depersonalization.
Does anyone have an answer for that?

Thanks

When I first got DPDR I contracted the anxiety after being DPd. I started to feel unreal, THEN the panicking started. So my first feelings of DP gave me anxiety just like you're describing. It was the fear of DP. Mine was from LSD.

I've wondered the same thing. I do know that I tend to have obsessive thoughts that lead to dp/dr more often when I'm depressed.

yh, but in that case..it wouldn't make any sense..coz what, DP came by itself? Or came by some ingridient in THC?

Minus the LSD part, mine was pretty much started the same way. It's hard to tell which came first, the anxiety attack or the DP, but I think it was the anxiety attack. :/

Same thing with me too, I've been "diagnosed" with depression, and have had obsessive thoughts in the past, so all this crap kinda ties together, and at times can really intensify my DP.

Anxiety usually plays a large role in onset, but the relationship is not necessarily cause->effect. I've found that with drug-induced DP/DR, at least based on anecdotal evidence, there was some sort of major panic that occurred during intoxication. Anxiety is definitely involved, but it's not the whole story.
