What's the one thing that helps everyone, day to day, to deal with the immediate distresses of DP?

Staying as busy as I can, resting when I need to, and not stopping to focus on how dissociated I feel. It isn't easy, but I try and stop my mind from focusing on how scary it is.

This might sound silly but I started just writing everything I feel in a word document. I guess you could call it a journal but it just feels good to write about my insecurities, fears, hopes, anxieties, frustrations, and everything that both is and isn't caused by DP. It actually helps me view the things I worry about from a different angle, and helps me conqueror them. Just feels good to get whats on the inside out really.

Same as morningdovespirit and hoopesy
  • Keeping on with the things I like even when I am certain I am not going to enjoy them.
  • Trying not to focus on it, and when I can't help but focus on it I
  • write down how I think and feel

Hope.

For me knowing that one day in the future I will be free of this is more or less the only thing that's keeping me going.

Yes - I agree. Heroin. No - not really! Not focusing on the DP/DR feelings as much as possible and Xanax. The only med that has ever helped.
