I think SSRIs resensitise (down-regulate) 5HT2 receptors not desensitise (or maybe that's wrong), and they block reuptake by binding to a transport pump that normally reabsorbs serotonin back into the cell, effectively switching it off.

It may have been me that misled you, I'm always getting my up/down, re/de, left/right etc mixed up. I've confused ketanserin/ritanserin, clonazepam/clozapine, and buspiron/bupropion on the board before. I guess I shouldn't use big words I don't understand.

I'll check my facts in 'Essential Psychopharmacology' when I get home tonight.
